After winning the first three ADRL national events of 2008 in his National Guard-backed ’57 Chevy, former police officer Joshua Hernandez went on to finish first in points and enter the ADRL’s championship-deciding Battle for the Belts as a title favorite. An early exit, however, left the Houston, Texas-based racer more determined than ever to win it all and with former Guardsman and drag racing legend Jim Oddy calling the shots as crew chief, 2009 may well be his year.

Travis Swearingen says he’s excited about representing the National Guard throughout the 2009 ADRL season. The 26-year-old from Blue Springs, Missouri, feels it’s a great opportunity to honor military members and veterans like his father, Alan, who served in Vietnam and now competes alongside him as crew chief on the family-owned 1941 Willys Pro Extreme entry. Swearingen, the 2006 ADRL Rookie of the Year, earned his career-first ADRL win last year and hopes to return to victory lane with the National Guard as soon as possible.
